This year promises to be a big one for Sanctuary Retreats, which is to launch a new camp and transform others.
According to Mariki van Tonder, Africa Sales Director for Sanctuary Retreats, there is much excitement over the new and mobile Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp in Tanzania that was launched in December.
“This extraordinary new escape, based in three set locations across the Serengeti, invites guests to intimately experience the movement of a million-plus wildebeest and zebra as they follow the fresh grasses across the Serengeti plains during the annual migration cycle,” she said.
Kichakani — translated from Swahili as ‘in the bush’ — replaces the Sanctuary Migration Camp and will be located in the Southern Serengeti until March, in Central Serengeti from May to July and in the Northern Serengeti until November.
Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp and Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma are currently under transformation.
“Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp will offer classic elegance for contemporary travellers, where guests can game-watch from bed at this reimagined tented safari camp, while at Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma, an inspired redesign will elevate this Zambian safari experience.”
Both camps are expected to be finalised in April, said Van Tonder. “At Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp in the Okavango Delta, there will be 10 brand-new luxury canvas tents, while all 12 treehouses at Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia have been restyled.”
In June the group will also relaunch Sanctuary Olonana, which is on the banks of the Mara River in the Masai Mara, with 14 new glass-sided suites.
