Camps devastated by flooding in the Maasai Mara in May are progressively reopening their doors after extensive rebuilds, equipping them to welcome tourists for the current high season.
This was revealed in a Tourism Update round-up of camps affected in the reserve.
JW Marriot Masai Mara Lodge – one of the lodges to be worst-affected by the floods – reopened its doors on July 15. The restoration plan involved the full refurbishment of 18 luxury tented suites, while two remaining suites will be completed by the end of the year.
“We are grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement from people around the globe, and are ready to welcome travellers back to this extraordinary destination,a haven of luxury and wilderness,” said the lodge's GM Barnabas Wamoto.
PrideInn Mara Camp reopened at the end of May, after a rebuild of all 30 tents, while the restoration of 15 cottages is nearing completion.
Other reopened camps include Elewana Sand River, Amazing Mara Camp, Julia's River Camp, Mara Simba Lodge, Hemingways Ol Seki Mara and Mara Eden Safari Camp.
