“Things seem to be moving in the right direction towards making international travel more accessible” was a sentiment expressed by many in the industry this week.
Among the green shoots of hope is that trade bodies from across the aviation and travel industries in Britain are planning an industry day of action (#traveldayofaction) on June 23 to put pressure on the UK Government to support a safe return to international travel.
A Tourism Update reader from the UK, who calls himself ‘Westie’, had this to say:
“The Track and Trace and testing in the UK has not been great, but we finally seem to have got up to speed. We now need to trust the vaccine. The whole thing has been about protecting the health service.
Well that is now protected, hospitalisation (<1000) and deaths are right down. And if you get the disease when vaccinated the chances are that it IS now just a bad flu (which previously I didn't concur with). So now we just have to take the plunge and learn how to live with COVID.”
