An international blind cricket series is under way in Cape Town – the first of its kind between the two nations, South Africa and New Zealand.
Blind Cricket South Africa and the New Zealand Blind Cricket Association are competing in five T20s at The Vineyard Oval and in two one-day internationals at Victoria Cricket Club and Bellville Cricket Club.
The last match is on February 14.
The City's Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Zahid Badroodien, said: “Our visually impaired players are ready to put their skills to the test and the series will also give local crowds the opportunity to witness blind cricket at a top level and support their national blind cricket team.”
The sport is similar to normal cricket, but modifications cater for the players' lack of eyesight, such as an audible ball. “Spectators can attend matches free of charge so come and be a part of this exhilarating series,” said Badroodien.
