The full review hearing of the e-tolling case has been set for November 26.
The Treasury is appealing the interdict preventing the e-tolls going ahead on August 15. If SANRAL wins the appeal, the interdict may be set aside and e-tolling may start until the review on November 26.
The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) has filed the supplementary affidavit and is now waiting for the replying affidavit to be filed by the respondents, which is due by September 17. OUTA has the chance to reply by October 1, before the heads of argument are filed on October 22. This gives the judge time to prepare for the hearing.
In a statement, OUTA said SANRAL’s plan to subject the citizens of South Africa to an “elaborate and expensive” e-Tolling process to pay for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) in April 2012 had been met with fierce opposition by the public. OUTA, an alliance of business and public participants was successful in halting the launch of e-Tolling in Gauteng on April 28, just days before its planned launch on April 30, pending a full review of the decision to toll these routes.
