The governments of Ghana and South Africa have agreed on a visa waiver regime to allow citizens of both countries to travel visa-free.
The agreement will take effect on November 1, and allows holders of ordinary passports visa-free entry into both countries for a cumulative period of up to 90 days per annum without recourse to work.
The South African High Commission in Ghana added that should the 90 days be exhausted within the 12 months, ordinary passport holders must apply for a visa to enter South Africa.
South Africa also recently added Ghana to its eVisa platform, meaning that Ghanaians can now apply for visas to South Africa without visiting the High Commission.
Editor’s note: An ordinary passport is a type of passport issued to citizens of a country for the purpose of international travel. It typically contains the holder's personal information, photograph, and other biometric data, and is issued by the government of the holder's country of citizenship. It is sometimes referred to as a "regular" passport or a "standard" passport.
