Glenn Phillips,Managing Executive Tourism Development and Marketing for SANParks, will take the reins of the Kruger National Park (KNP) from June this year.
Phillips signed a 5-year contract as Managing Executive for KNP, taking over from Danie Pienaar, who has been acting Managing Executive since April last year. Pienaar will return to his full-time position as General Manager of Scientific Services.
Spokesperson for SANParks Reynold Thakhuli told Tourism Update Phillips emerged from a due selection process as the ideal candidate for the position.
Said Thakhuli: “Phillips has been with SANParks for over ten years as Managing Executive: Tourism and Marketing. He has overseen various successfully implemented strategies, which includes the current 2022 Responsible Tourism Strategy and the Business Development Strategy, which has introduced public-private partnerships in most of the national parks. He also brings a wealth of experience from his previous operations in the hospitality industry.”

Commenting on his appointment, Phillips said he will continue strengthening good working relationships with various stakeholders in the KNP particularly, making sure that these communities derive tangible value from the internationally acclaimed national park. He will be putting a lot of energy and effort in the fight against rhino poaching. He will build a strong and formidable work force concentrating on the core pillars of SANParks operations -conservation, tourism and constituency building.
