The African Traditional Sports and Games Council (ATSGC) has officially designated Namibia as host of the inaugural African Traditional Sports and Games in 2026. The event aims to celebrate Africa's cultural heritage through traditional sports, promoting unity and cooperation among nations across the continent.
The games are designed to showcase athletic talent and the diverse cultural identities and traditions of Africa. Participants will showcase various traditional games that reflect the unique customs of their regions.
“As preparations for the 2026 African Traditional Sports and Games progress, the ATSGC is collaborating closely with Namibian authorities and local communities to ensure a successful and memorable event. This gathering will not only highlight athletic excellence but also emphasise the importance of cultural heritage in fostering a united and resilient Africa,” the ATSGC said in a press statement.
Namibia was chosen as the host nation for its stunning landscapes and commitment to promoting traditional sports, having successfully completed the bid process required by the ATSGC and the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games.
