The Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria has opened with four exhibitions.
They include a collection of 101 signature works of South African art selected from collections around the country; the Javett Family Collection of South African modern art, an exhibition of significant gold pieces from the Mapungubwe Gold Collection, and AngloGold's Barbier-Mueller Collection of more than 350 items of gold from West Africa.
The art centre has exhibition spaces with a footprint on the campus of the University of Pretoria and on a bridge that spans Lynnwood Road.
The Javett-UP is open from 10am to 5pm daily.
Entrance prices range from R150 (€9) for adults, R75 (€5) for pensioners, and R50 (€3) for under 18s. Entry is free for children under six and for university students who have a valid student card. For school tours, the price is R25 (€2) each for learners and teachers.
Guided tours must be booked at least 48 hours in advance and tour groups should include at least 10 people.

There will be free entry for the public on Workers’ Day (May 1); International Museum Day (May 18, 2020); Youth Day (June 16); Women’s Day (August 9); and Heritage Day (September 24).
