&Beyond’s luxury lodge, Mnemba Island, off the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar will close for an extensive refurbishment from January 13.
The main areas will be reconfigured, and forthcoming additions include an expanded bar area that will also be used as a daytime coffee and juice hub, and a mezzanine dining level providing breathtaking Indian Ocean views.
A family banda (thatched chalet) and 12 new beach bandas will be added. The family unit will have a suite with an adjoining smaller room and bathroom.
The new Wellness Banda will feature two treatment rooms and an open-air yoga deck.
The new Dive Centre will offer more island activities, including all-day dhow cruises, hydrofoil bikes, catch-and-release fishing, kayaking, a selection of beach games and more.
An adjacent interpretive centre will highlight conservation initiatives by Oceans Without Borders, an &Beyond and Africa Foundation collaboration.
Mnemba Island Lodge is expected to reopen on October 1 next year.
