A new expressway between Entebbe and Kampala, scheduled for completion in May, is expected to reduce travelling time to about 20 to 30 minutes.
The 49km-long expressway is expected to significantly reduce travelling time from Entebbe International Airport.
Vincent Mugaba, Public Relations Officer for Uganda Tourism, told Tourism Update that travellers could currently spend anything between one and two hours stuck in traffic jams to and from the airport.
He said it would also make travelling to national parks easier and for those, for example, travelling to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and even Murchison Falls National Park, it would not be necessary to go through central Kampala. “The expressway loops around the city saving travel time through the other connecting national roads. This saves over an hour of travel time.”
It will also allow travellers to drive directly to Entebbe International Airport instead of going through Kampala.
Mugaba said access to the road would be limited in terms of interchanges. “There is a single interchange at Kajjansi, which connects to Kampala through the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. No other access will be allowed on to the road.” It will be a toll road with stations at either end of the interchange.
