A new airline, Vule Airways, is set to launch operations in Uganda in November.

The anticipated flights by the airline will give a big boost to air travel in Uganda, given that its national carrier, Uganda Airlines, ceased operations in 2001.

Vule Airways is positioning itself as a budget carrier as it seeks to gain ground in Uganda amidst competition from regional airlines such as Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.

The new airline has set its sights on launching flights between Entebbe and London in November and is expected to operate domestic flights in Uganda as well as across the East African region.

Recently, Vule Airways Managing Director, Robert Mwesigwa, said the airline would start with a fleet of six leased aircraft, pointing out that they might add more, depending on passenger demand.

According to the Marketing Director, Margaret Wampamba, the carrier would operate 40-seat aircraft for domestic flights and 100-seat aircraft for regional flights.

For the long-haul flights, she said the airline would operate a Boeing 777-300 on the Entebbe-London route via Tunisia.
