A New multi-purpose visitors’ centre is planned for Intaka Island, a 16ha wetland and bird sanctuary situated at the centre of Century City in the Western Cape.
The centre will be able to accommodate groups of up to 75 visitors at one time.
The centre will also provide an opportunity to design, build and brand a modern, energy-conscious, environmentally friendly green building to showcase sustainable living best practices optimising energy and natural resource efficiencies.
Construction of the centre will be funded by donations from environmentally conscious corporates and individuals. So far, a third of the estimated capital costs of R3 million has been raised from sponsors – the Rabie Property Group, Nedbank, the Gutsche family and the Louis Group.
