Newmark Hotels & Reserves has opened the Modjadji Master Suite – a new addition to Geiger’s Camp at Motswari Private Game Reserve in Timbavati.
The suite has been designed to accommodate two guests with a convertible lounge area for a family of four within its 139 square metre layout.
The design embraces alfresco living – the en suite bathroom leads to an open-air shower while the lounge, complete with fireplace and dining area, opens onto a private deck with a pool overlooking the wilderness.
Named after the Rain Queen of the Balobedu people, the Modjadji Master Suite was conceptualised in collaboration with local artisans – thatchers, stonemasons and builders. The build prioritised “place over pace” with traditional techniques over heavy machinery. Geiger’s Camp Owner Marion Geiger said: “We used local thatch and rocks we gathered ourselves. Building here is different – it’s an organic process; a labour of love.”
The interior design was a collaboration between Geiger and David Strauss, featuring antique furnishings, hand-carved doors and curated pieces that lend a sense of history. Two of Geiger’s own paintings created during the suite’s construction are displayed in the bedroom and, as with every suite at Geiger’s Camp, a watercolour paint box is provided for guests to use during their stay.
