The Okavango Delta is expected to reach high levels this year according to measurements taken at Rundu, close to the Okavango Panhandle, Sense of Africa has reported.

The water levels are already exceeding last year’s measurements and the ‘normal’ level expected.

As soon as water levels are high enough, many lodges will begin to operate boat cruises, canoeing and fishing again, while those on mokoro trails (traditional canoes) can enjoy longer excursions that travel further.

Sense of Africa says these readings are an accurate prediction of what is to come in the next month or two. 

Tourists visiting the Okavango Delta during this time can expect to see pools and islands that are formed when the flood waters arrive, as well as birdlife and game viewing.
