Visitors to the Augrabies Falls National Park in the Northern Cape had better be prepared to get wet, as the Falls are flowing strongly due to recent high rainfall across South Africa.
South Africa’s native Khoi people named the falls ‘Akoerebis’, meaning ‘place of great noise’, an apt description as the flow of water is anticipated to reach 2 000 cubic metres per second in the next two weeks, and the Falls will be roaring.
