Jeremy Knowles (Cape Town-born) and Steve Koch (Windhoek-born) are co-owners of Africa Outing. Both were schooled in Cape Town, and graduated at the University of Cape Town as high school teacher (English and History - Jeremy; Geography - Steve). Both notched up their longest teaching service at The South African College High School (the oldest school in the country!) in Cape Town.
Teaching was great – but after 14 years in the game, they grew restless. During school holidays over they would set off in the 4 X 4 and “discover” most of South and southern Africa. And so they began to think – what about doing this as a living? The rest is history, as they say – they both qualified as National Tour Guides in South Africa in 1997, and since then, have led many tours around South Africa and neighbouring countries – Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Lesotho and Swaziland. These have been both large group and F.I.T.-type small-groups.
Both love this country - and continent - passionately, and are at their happiest when sharing it with visitors! And both believe firmly in the mantra expressed so beautifully in Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" -
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
