Zambia’s government plans to work closely with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), promoting tourism in the country in the hope of increasing international arrivals.
In addition, UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Poloikashvili, has pledged to enhance multilateral relations with Zambia at UNWTO, when Zambia’s Minister of Tourism and Arts, Charles Banda, called on him in Madrid.
Poloikashvili acknowledged the continued leadership role Zambia had demonstrated within the organisation and said he was optimistic about the country taking on an even stronger role while he was in office.
Banda said his Ministry would work with the UNWTO secretariat to help market the country’s tourism sector, with the aim of making Zambia one of the best tourist destinations on the continent.
Poloikashvili said there was significant tourism potential in Zambia but that a strategy needed to be put in place to better monitor tourism numbers and the industry’s contribution to the economic development of the country.
