Cape Town-based tour operator Go2Africa has conducted a study to find out which country is the best family holiday spot in the world, by analysing 365 969 family-friendly hotels, attractions and restaurants.
Go2Africa first compiled a comprehensive list of all the countries around the world. It then gathered data on the number of family-friendly 4-5-star hotels, attractions and restaurants from Tripadvisor.
By calculating the percentage of family-friendly places relative to the total number of establishments, Go2Africa determined the best destinations to visit with kids.
Seychelles ranked as the best country in the world, and in Africa, to visit with kids. The country has the highest proportion of family-friendly hotels, attractions and restaurants, making it a top destination for parents.
“Numerous bays in the Seychelles are shielded by offshore reefs, which not only offer protection from the open sea but also create shallow waters ideal for children. It’s also incredibly safe, with no vaccination requirements, no dangerous animals and an absence of natural disasters,” Go2Africa said.
Morocco, which ranked second in Africa, might seem like an unlikely choice, but its cities, souks, and the Sahara offer uniquely diverse experiences for both kids and parents.
South Africa was rated the third-best family vacation destination in Africa, offering everything from action-packed cities, beautiful beaches, relaxing resorts and notably, Big 5 safari parks like the Kruger National Park.
The study said that South Africa has well-developed tourism infrastructure and is considered safe for family travel, with plenty of amenities and services catering to the needs of families with children.
“Whether enjoying vibrant cities like Cape Town, relaxing on stunning beaches, or experiencing thrilling safaris, a South African holiday provides a diverse and memorable trip for families,” Go2Africa said.
Coming in fourth place in Africa, Namibia was rated an excellent destination for families seeking adventure and unique experiences. A thrilling Namibian safari in Etosha National Park, home to wildlife including elephants, lions, and giraffes, or exploring the abundant wetlands of the Caprivi Strip, families will have a memorable holiday in Namibia.
“Many accommodations in Namibia offer kid-friendly programmes, swimming pools, numerous activities and interactive conservation experiences. The country is safe and most regions are malaria-free, making it ideal for family travel,” Go2Africa added.
“The breathtaking landscapes of Africa – from the sweeping savannahs of the Serengeti to the lush wetlands of the Okavango Delta – offer endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. These experiences help children develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them, fostering a deeper connection with nature,” said Liesel Van Zyl, Product Manager and luxury travel expert at Go2Africa.
