Zanzibar President, Ali Mohamed Shein, has formally launched an expanded parking apron, and extended and resurfaced taxiway at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport on the island of Unguja.  

Ongoing terminal expansion and upgrading is scheduled for completion towards the end of this year.

Some 17 carriers serve Zanzibar on a scheduled or seasonal basis, as well as a handful of charter airlines.
