African Bush Camps will launch a new safari concept, Super Sensory Safari, in April at Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe.
CEO, Beks Ndlovu, told Tourism Update that the aim was to give travellers a close and intimate experience of the natural surroundings at the park.
“We aim to achieve this through running specific activities, each focused on accentuating one of the five senses – touch, taste, smell, sight and sound.” Ndlovu added that the safari was ground breaking as it also included an in-depth study of natural systems and processes.
Some of the activities and features of the six-day programme are a walking safari, the use of individual headphones linked to sophisticated microphones, and the use of night-vision binoculars.
Ndlovu said the safari would be experienced “through the lens of biomimicry – the inspiring practice of learning from and emulating nature’s genius”. Rob Janisch, a specialist biomimicry nature guide, and Derek Solomon, an animal behaviour specialist and wildlife sound recordist, present parts of the programme.
