Responsibility for building a shelter for tourists at the Kazungula border post lies with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), despite attempts by industry to raise funds to set up the structure.
This is according to Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Chief Executive, Karikoga Kaseke, who said the revenue collector had indicated that it had capacity to put up the shelter, although the year-long delay was now a major concern for the tourism industry. He added that his office had engaged Zimra on the issue.
“It is surprising that the shed is not yet up. Zimra promised to construct the shed, so they must fulfil their promise. They have to construct the shed because they stopped tourism players who had sourced funds for the project,” he said.
Kaseke said Zimra must fulfil its obligation or let industry take over. Zimbabwe Council for Tourism Victoria Falls Chapter Representative, Barbara Murasiranwa, revealed that tourism players in the resort town had mobilised $12 000 for the construction of a shed at Kazungula, as some tourists had reportedly fainted at the port of entry due to excessive direct heat.
