The Riverside Hotel in Durban North was evacuated on Friday morning after a fire started in one of the bedrooms on the second floor.
The Riverside Hotel GM Keith Bentley said the fire brigade had been immediately summoned and responded quickly, containing the damage primarily to the room where the fire started.
No guests or staff were injured in the fire, although one guest did receive oxygen from paramedics due to smoke inhalation.
An investigation is currently under way to assess the cause of the fire, however initial indications are that an electrical fault in the air-conditioning unit may have been at fault. The air-conditioner was recently serviced by a qualified electrician.
