Ambitious growth plans being pursued by RwandAir include the addition of Cape Town, as well as a Cape Town-Harare route, in the near future, advises Thembela Dladla, the airline’s Country Manager in South Africa.
Guangzhou in China, New York, Yaoundé in Cameroon and Abuja in Nigeria will also be added to the RwandAir network soon, which has recently been expanded with flights between Johannesburg and Lusaka, Kigali and Harare, and services to Mumbai. The airline has also set up a West African hub in Contonou, Benin, which services Dakar, Libreville and Bamako among other points.
To facilitate extra capacity, the carrier recently took delivery of its first A330-200/300 as well as additional Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft with full on-board connectivity, including roaming services and WiFi.
A new international airport, Bugesera, is being built just outside Kigali to serve growing passenger numbers. Construction, which began in September last year, is scheduled for completion in 2019.
