CemAir flights remain indefinitely grounded by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) following an audit that revealed that unqualified personnel of had cleared 12 of the airline’s aircraft as airworthy.
On February 2, the SACAA withdrew the affected aircrafts’ Certificates of Airworthiness. On February 3, CemAir released a statement saying it was working with the SACAA to resolve the issue as expeditiously as possible and that both parties would meet over the weekend.
The SACAA indicated that the grounding of CemAir flights is a precautionary measure. The airline is cooperating with the agency to bring its aircraft in line with the safety regulations. Based out of Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, CemAir offers scheduled flights to Bloemfontein, George, Cape Town, Hoedspruit, Margate, Plettenberg Bay, Port Elizabeth and Sishen.
