Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy, has opened its first safari lodge with the launch of Turaco Ngorongoro Valley in Karatu, Tanzania.
The property features 34 executive and three presidential suites. The design draws inspiration from the traditional Maasai boma with circular structures and pitched roofs and a blend of natural materials like wood and stone with vibrant Maasai-inspired accents.
Shared spaces include outdoor dining areas and a central bonfire. Farm-to-table fare is served at the Caldera restaurant while the N Bar offers craft cocktails in a cosy setting with a piano and billiards table. The poolside Maji Maji Bar provides snacks and refreshments. In addition, the lodge has a jacuzzi, fitness centre, spa and recreation centre.
Activities include game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater, guided forest walks and hikes along the Endoro Trail. Maasai cultural activities such as storytelling sessions, traditional dance and village visits provide insight into the local community’s way of life.
Considering sustainability, solar energy and efficient waste management reduce the property’s environmental footprint. The lodge also supports various community initiatives including the Kilimani school. It funded new classrooms, a kitchen and staff facilities and invites guests to donate books and supplies to the school.
The lodge offers airport shuttles to and from Arusha Airport (140km away) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (204km away).
