The funicular at Cape Point, near the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, is currently not operational, as it is undergoing mechanical repairs, says Cape Point Marketing Content and Social Media Co-ordinator, Tamzyn Manuel.
Also known as the Flying Dutchman Funicular, the railway is believed to be the only one of its kind in Africa, and transports guests from the Cape Point parking area to the viewing point below the lighthouse.
Manuel says: “Every morning the funicular goes through a mechanical check before the day begins. During these checks last week, the technician picked up on a mechanical issue due to general wear and tear.” Operations were subsequently halted.
“We will update visitors via social media as soon as it is up and running again,” advises Manuel.
