Wildlife Vets Namibia has re-introduced rhinos into a 15 000-ha reserve in the western part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The name of the reserve was not disclosed to Tourism Update for security reasons.
Dr. Ulf Tubbesing, wildlife veterinarian and owner of the reserve, said the translocated rhinos would enhance guests’ experience in the reserve. “Any nature reserve like this will strive to introduce a full spectrum of Africa-indigenous wild animals. We think the rhinos add lots of value to the existing game population in the reserve. Many people enjoy rhinos and would like to see them in real life,” said Tubbesing.
He said tourism in the DRC was still under-developed but had huge potential. “There is also a big desire and need amongst the local population to learn more about nature, and to appreciate nature. We believe that this will be achieved by this and similar projects.”
Wildlife Vets Namibia is a company with years of wildlife veterinary experience in game capture and translocations in Namibia.
