In response to the announcement of the high-risk countries banned from entering South Africa, Tourism Update reader (known as KJBATL) had this to say:
“Unfortunately, even with the list being "updated every two weeks", most US travellers are not going to risk planning a long, expensive vacation to SA at this point only to have to cancel it (more than once for many 2020 travellers, who have already had to do so).
Many lodges are allowing one postponement without a fee but no more. Airlines charge change and cancellation fees that can be high for these international flights.
For many it is a once-in-a-lifetime trip they save for. They don't want to plan it and not be able to go without a plan B for a family or couples trip. Even regular travellers like myself want more certainty.
Also, if a country is removed from the red list, it can be put back on at any time. Too much uncertainty and risk! It's a shame, I miss South Africa.”
