South African tourism experts agree that now is the time to communicate well with our source markets.
The writer of this week’s top comment says source markets should be equally communicative with South Africa.
The comment was made by Southern Tours and Safaris about an article detailing the messages South Africa should be sending to source markets.
“This is a very interesting article indeed, but there are some loopholes that make this topic less beneficial to the tourism industry, leading to misinformation. Firstly, we don’t really have enough news supply from Europe to SA (apart from social media), but they have journalists and their representatives who are supplying them with information about SA. It is a one-way stream. We need accurate information from the UK and EU for us to be able to position ourselves correctly. The second point is about the vaccine roll-out. The majority of healthy people in western Europe, which is the main travelling part, are not willing to take the vaccine right away; they don’t trust it yet. They might wait for another six or 12 months to assess the results of the vaccinated people. To add on that, the vaccine is not curing the virus 100%. We still have to wait patiently and hope that our incompetent government guess right at some point.”
