After identifying rebounding demand in Kenya and Tanzania, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed franchise agreements to add three hotels to its portfolio – in Kenya, the Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers Mall and the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi, and the Crowne Plaza Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
The 171-room Holiday Inn Nairobi Two Rivers Mall, in the vibrant Gigiri/Runda district in northern Nairobi, is within Two Rivers Mall & Entertainment complex, offering guests access to over 200 shops, the city’s theme park and an array of family activities such as go-karting and a skate park.
Located in the prestigious Nairobi suburb of Upper Hill, the Fairview Hotel was converted from a 1920s manor house in 1932 and has become an established destination for travellers. The 128-room property is remaining open while undergoing refurbishment, before operating under one of IHG’s boutique brands.
The 148-room Crowne Plaza Dar es Salaam is in the city’s central business district and is expected to receive high demand from business and leisure travellers.
Haitham Mattar, IHG MD India, Middle East and Africa, said the group had identified strong potential in the East African region. “Our expansion across Kenya and Tanzania is testament to how IHG Hotels & Resorts is encouraging this potential and meeting the returning demand quickly. Africa’s hospitality and tourism industry has weathered the disruption of the past two years, with a rising number of inbound travellers.”
IHG currently operates 28 hotels across five brands in Africa, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and voco. A further 22 hotels in the development pipeline are due to open within the next three to five years.
