As part of its UN World Tourism Day celebrations, Kenya has officially launched its initiative encouraging each tourist to plant a tree during their visits to the country.
The One Tourist, One Tree campaign was launched in Kisumu, host county of the country’s celebration of Kenya Tourism Week, from September 23-28.
Under President William Ruto, Kenya has set the ambitious target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. This could help increase the country’s forest cover from 12-30%.
Free access to all of Kenya’s national parks will also be available to the public on September 28.
Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism, urged Kenyans to explore the country’s offerings and develop an understanding of the importance of attracting international tourists.
“I encourage you to take this opportunity to connect with our incredible wildlife, share your experiences and inspire the world with the story of Kenya’s unmatched natural beauty.”
Located in Kenya’s far west, Kisumu County includes attractions such as Lake Victoria, Kajulu Hills Forest, Ndere Island National Park and the sacred rock formation known as Kit Mikayi.
