Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) has clarified that the Blyde River Canyon and Swadini Dam in Mpumalanga will not be closed from October to February, as previously reported.
A media release from Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), published on Tourism Update on October 10, suggested that sections of Swadini and the Blyde River Canyon would be restricted, due to filming.
“We would like to clarify that Swadini and the Blyde River Canyon will not be fully closed and that tourists will still be able to enjoy full access to the scenic beauty of these magnificent attractions,” said Oupa Pilane, KLCBT President, after meeting with MTPA. “The most popular tourism attractions, such as Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window and all the viewpoints along the canyon will be unaffected by the closures,” he added.
The MTPA has clarified that only a small section of the Swadini area, to the north of the main canyon will be restricted on the following dates:
- From October 29, to January 3, 2019.
- From February 19, 2019 to February 28.
Access to the Swadini section (only), will be completely restricted from January 4 until February 18, 2019.
“It is our intention to keep the industry informed of any activities in and around our attractions in Mpumalanga. However, this is not meant in any way to disrupt tourists’ travel itineraries, with most of the key attractions remaining open to tourists throughout the process,” commented Kholofelo Nkambule, MTPA Communication Manager.
