French hotel group AccorHotels plans to return to Angola.
According to local Angolan newspaper Valor Econômico, AccorHotels will return to the country – this time without its former partner, Angola’s AAA Group, with which it broke ties in February.
AccorHotels’ interest was expressed at a recent meeting held in South Africa with Angola’s Minister of Tourism, Ângela Bragança.
Alka Winter, Vice President, Global Communications AccorHotels Middle East and Africa, wasn’t able to delve into the specifics on when AccorHotels intends to return to Angola. “We believe in the long-term potential in the countries that we operate in, and within the context of Angola, we look forward to developing our operations there in the future and providing our management expertise across a range of brands,” Winter told Tourism Update in an interview.
Last February, it was announced that the French group had terminated the agreement for the management of 50 hotels in Angola under the Ibis brand, and presented arguments related to the difficulty of access to foreign currency and the country’s economic situation.
The partnership with the Accor group covered management, operation, branding, reservations and marketing. The AAA Group was the investor and owner of the hotels.
AccorHotels is one of the leading global hospitality companies, and its commitment in Africa is strong following its entry into the continent over 40 years ago.
