A Notice to AirMen (NOTAM) has been issued by the Kenya Airport Authority for Friday, October 20 for the two main airports in Nairobi, Wilson Airport and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Geoffrey Kilonzi, Reservations Agent at Silverstone Air said: “Tomorrow being a public holiday, the airspace will be closed for the Mashujaa celebrations.”
Felix Anguu, Flight Operations at Safarilink Aviation confirmed that Wilson Airport would close between 09h00 and 14h00, and the Kenya Airport Authority confirmed that JKIA would close between 11h00 and 12h00, meaning that all inbound and outbound traffic would be affected.
“October 20 is a public holiday in Kenya and, as usual, Wilson Airport will be closed for security reasons,” said Fatma M-Mwendwa, Operations Manager at Safarilink Aviation.
Mwendwa said several morning flights would be affected and that all passengers should take note of the revised timings, as advised below:
-The 10h00 Mara service and 10h20 Laikipia (Samburu/Nanyuki etc) flights will both depart at 08h00; therefore passengers must be checked in by 07h00 to ensure the services depart on time.
-The inbound flights from Tsavo, Amboseli, Lodwat/Kapese, Kitale and 11h00 Mara flights will arrive at JKIA domestic arrivals terminal 1D.
-Kilimanjaro flight will depart from JKIA at scheduled time of 12h40.
-The inbound Laikpia service will be delayed from Laikpia in order to arrive at Wilson at 14h10.
ATC News reports that airlines based at Wilson Airport are working hard to change dozens of scheduled flights to and from the national parks as well as the country’s beach and upcountry destinations, to accommodate the airport closures.
It has been advised that travellers expected to travel through one of these airports should contact their airline at the airport to confirm when their flights are likely to take off or land.
