Botswana’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism has issued a public notice regarding temporary road closures in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and other protected areas following recent heavy rainfall.
The affected routes include sections of the Tsau area (Motopi and Passage), Matswere (Deception Pan, Kukama, Lekhubu and Letiahau) and Xade (Piper Pan and Phokoje). Tau Pan and other areas, such as Sunday and Leopard Pan, are also flooded so these routes are impassable.
The road to Khutse from Lethlakeng is similarly affected. Travellers are urged to use alternative routes and exercise caution.
In the Khwai region, a gatehouse collapsed on February 15, although services remain operational. An alternative route has been opened. Visitors are advised to proceed with care.
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks will continue monitoring road conditions and provide updates as necessary.
