Budget carrier, Skyward Express, has introduced daily flights from Wilson Airport, Nairobi, to the Kenya coast destinations of Mombasa and Lamu.
The Nairobi-Mombasa-Lamu flights will depart from Wilson Airport at 09h00 and arrive in Mombasa’s Moi International Airport at 10h00,departing from Mombasa at 10h30 and arriving at Lamu’s Manda airport 11h00.
The return flight will depart Lamu at 11h30 and arrive in Mombasa at 12h00, with departure at 12h30 to arrive at Wilson airport at 13h30.
The entry of Skyward Express to the Nairobi-Mombasa-Lamu route brings the number of airlines operating scheduled flights to the archipelago to six.
Other airlines flying to Lamu are Kenya Airways’ low-cost carrier, Jambojet, Air Kenya, Safarilink, Fly540 and Fly-SAX.
Skyward Express’s daily flights come after the United Kingdom recently reviewed travel advice against Lamu and Manda islands in Lamu County.
Skyward Express says its choice of Wilson Airport is meant to avoid Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which handles multiple local and international flights.
“We will run our operations from Wilson Airport to overcome delays and hassles at JKIA since one of our goals is to offer convenience to travellers,” said Skyward Express Director, Mohammed Somo.
“Demand for flights to Mombasa is high and we are getting into this space to offer competitive prices and convenience.”
The airline also plans to inaugurate flights to the popular Diani destination in Kenya’s south coast and Kisumu in Nyanza region.
