The dams in and around Cape Town that form part of the Western Cape Water Supply System are at an overall storage level of 81.3% as of October 7.
The Western Cape has experienced an excellent recovery after being plagued by a drought for the past two years. In addition to servicing Cape Town, the system supplies water to towns in the Overberg, Boland, West Coast, and Swartland areas, and provides irrigation water for agriculture.
Major dam and storage percentages according to the City of Cape Town:
- Berg River: 99.1%
- Steenbras Lower: 99.7%
- Steenbras Upper: 84.4%
- Theewaterskloof: 71.2%
- Voëlvlei: 88.5%
- Wemmershoek: 91.9%
- Overall storage: 91.9%
Water consumption across Cape Town increased last week to 642 million litres/day, but we still remain within the daily allocation of 650 million litres/day.
