The ‘pick-up-and-go’ area at Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) relocates to the ground floor of Parkade 1 on December 10. A free 30 minutes will be allowed to collect passengers. Thereafter, a sharply increasing tariff will apply to deter users from lingering too long in the area. The airport has asked users to arrive 10 minutes after flight arrival time and not well in advance, to avoid congestion. The new pick-up area will have flight information display boards. If a flight is significantly delayed, users will have to park in one of the available parking areas. The current drop-off zone remains on top of the elevated road. Meanwhile, passengers departing for an extended period will be able to park in a new secure long-stay parking area under shade-nets at a significantly lower rate than the normal shade-net parking area. CTIA says the reconfiguration means airport users now have a wider choice.  They can choose to park closest to the terminal at a higher rate or further away at lower rates. Existing parking tariffs will not change.
