Registration is open for the second Wagora Bike Ride multi-day cycling event, in Tanzania’s Singita Grumeti Reserve, supporting the Grumeti Fund’s anti-poaching scouts. From October 27 to November 1, participants will experience the landscapes and wildlife of the Serengeti National Park while supporting conservation efforts.
The event is named in honour of Kitaboka Wagora, an anti-poaching scout who lost his life in 2008 while on patrol. His legacy continues to inspire the dedicated rangers who work to protect wildlife from illegal poaching.
The Wagora Bike Ride covers approximately 150km over three days – traversing dirt, gravel and sand roads with occasional off-road single tracks. Grumeti Fund scouts will accompany riders and support vehicles to ensure safety. Advanced cycling experience is not required.
Participants will stay at Singita Sabora Tented Camp, a luxury safari lodge, with opportunity to visit conservation sites, including the Research and Innovation for the Serengeti Ecosystem Centre and the Joint Operations Centre, where they will meet anti-poaching rangers, canine units and conservation teams.
Proceeds from the Wagora Bike Ride will fund:
- Training and deployment of additional rangers
- Equipment and resources for patrol teams
- Canine unit operations and specialised training
An all-inclusive, five-night package costs US$9 150 per person (single occupancy) or US$6 450 per person sharing. This includes return flights from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Singita Grumeti.
In addition, participants will donate (tax-deductible in the US) US$17 000 per single participant or US$10 000 per person sharing to the Grumeti Fund.
