Plans are well under way to deliver a new, extraordinary lodge in one of South Africa’s most remarkable wildlife areas, the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
According to Colin Bell, one of the founders of Natural Selection, who will develop the new five-star lodge, it is expected to open around August next year.
He said the lodge would be built only steps from the beach in a private area of the reserve and everything was on track for a 2018 opening.
“This site was the equivalent of Camp David for former President FW de Klerk who used the lodge from 1990 to 1994,” he said. “The buildings used by President De Klerk have since burned down but mark the sport where the new lodge will be built.”
Natural Selection plans to build the beach-front lodge with seven bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and outdoor lounge areas. Activities at the luxury accommodation other than hiking, will include snorkelling, mountain biking, bird watching and whale watching during specific times of the year.
Tourism Update previously reported about plans for a second boutique lodge opening nearby, which will offer guests a high-end two-night walking trail experience between the two lodges.
