Lewa Wilderness Lodge in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has taken delivery of its first electric game vehicle and claims to be the first operator offering ‘Zero Emission Safaris’ in Kenya.

According to Sacha Craig, Lewa Wilderness Sales and Marketing Director, the lodge converted a Land Cruiser from fossil fuel to electricity and the vehicle will be in action for the start of the summer season in June. The conversion of the car was completed in March by Opibus.

The vehicle is nearly silent, and thus minimises disturbance to wildlife. Guests can enjoy ‘raw’ nature and, without the sound of a diesel engine, get close to wildlife. Another benefit is that the vehicle has no noxious emissions.

Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya’s oldest private safari ventures, situated near Mt Kenya. It offers game drives, guided walks, scenic flights, horseback and camel riding among other activities.
