Mozambique is a destination that offers diverse experiences and attractions for tourists, taking them on journeys through the country’s history, culture, gastronomy, art, and many other tourism attractions. Here are five day tours that can be incorporated into an itinerary.

1. Travellers can experience Mozambique’s gastronomy through a Flavours of Mozambique Food Tour, one of two new tours offered by Dana Tours for 2019. The four-hour tour takes visitors through the city with stops to sample local food and drink specialities, including a tasting of traditional street food, Badjia (bean dumplings fried in oil), Matoritor (a coconut sweet), and Piri Piri.
2. The second new tour is the Maputo Arts and Culture Tour, where the local guide will take guests to a number of significant artistic, cultural and historic sites across the city and its surrounding neighbourhood. The tour includes a stop at the home of the famed Mozambican painter and poet, Malangatana; the Ntsindya Cultural Centre where musicians, writers and intellectuals who fought for Mozambique’s independence gathered; the Xipamanine Market; and a lunch stop at the home of renowned Mozambican artist, Walter Zand.
3. A Maputo day tour from Vomba Tours takes guests on a 10- to 12-hour experience of the city. An early-morning collection from their accommodation takes them toward the city centre, with frequent stops and light walking to see some of the city en route. Depending on the size of the group, travellers can see the town hall and Catholic cathedral, steel house and botanical gardens, fort and train station, woodcraft market (only on Saturdays), and fresh produce and fish markets. A lunch stop will be made at the famous Costo Do Sol restaurant. Guests will also visit the Polana Serena Hotel and drive along the ‘Avenida de Marginal’
4. Guests of the five-star Polana Serena Hotel can enjoy a number of excursions including a Cultural Tour that takes them to the outskirts of Maputo, exploring a different side of the city through its suburbs. They can also experience the more ‘artistic’ side of Maputo, with an Art Deco Tour that explores Maputo’s rich history through its architecture, showcasing some of the most influential buildings in the city, including hearing the stories behind the colonial-style ruins.
5. Inhaca Island is a popular destination for ecotourists, and a day tour with Mabeco Tours allows guests to explore the mangroves and sub-tropical forest with its many tree species. They have the opportunity to see some of the many different species of fish in the area, and some of the hundreds of different species of birds. A boat will take tourists to the island where they can explore and enjoy a visit to the Marine Biology Museum and snorkel in one of the coral reefs. On the way back to Maputo, the boat will stop at the Portuguese Island. The tour takes a maximum of 15 guests.
