The Inn on Rupurara in Nyanga, Zimbabwe, closed indefinitely on April 27.

The hotel, which has been running for 20 years, opened in September 1997 and ceased operating with immediate effect late last month. 

“It has been a remarkable product and it is greatly regretted that matters have come to this point, but I don’t need to remind anyone in the trade of the serious situation facing hospitality operators in the Eastern Highlands over a long period of time,” owner Gordon Addams, who is also chairperson of ‘Best of Zimbabwe’, said in a statement.

 Boniface Siziba, from Armadillo Travel in Harare, who handled the hotel’s reservations and marketing, said the property had been liquidated due to its becoming unsustainable, with tourism in the Eastern Highlands on the decline. The hotel was unable to provide the same services it could in the past, arising from unprofitable operations, he said. “Hopefully the hotel will reopen, if the owners can find investors.”
