Imvelo Safari Lodges has introduced horse riding in their Zimbabwe Hwange properties.
Nichole O’Callaghan, Reservations Manager of the group of lodges, said the horse riding activity will be offered at Bomani Lodge and Camelthorn Lodge throughout the year. “Imvelo Safari Lodge,s in partnership with Hwange Horseback Safaris, offers a herd of seven well-schooled, bush-wise horses. The breeds are varied and include Thoroughbreds, Percheron, Quarter-horse and Farm breeds.”
There is a weight restriction of 90kgs for riders, and no children under 16 years of age for multi-day safaris and certain other daily activities; however, children 7 years old and above are permitted on the beginner bush experience). The multi-day safaris and select daily activities are for experienced riders only.
Guests can enjoy horse riding between two and four hours, depending on the experience and type of ride.
Safety-helmets are available, and guests encouraged to bring their own if available. All rides are led by experienced and qualified Zimbabwean guides and trackers.
The riding track near Camelthorn and Bomani is through the beautiful savanna grasslands of the Ngamo Plains, and the landscape changes dramatically between the cooler dry winters and warm humid summers.
All rides depart from Camelthorn. Guests staying at Bomani who wish to do a horse riding activity will be transferred by road to Camelthorn. There is no charge for the transfer.
This activity combines riding in the south and north of Hwange National Park.
Camelthorn is situated on the edge of the south eastern corner of Hwange National Park while Bomani Lodge is on a 5 000-acre private reserve within the Ngamo Forest Area, 15 minutes away from Camelthorn Lodge and Hwange National Park gate.
