Johannesburg recently hosted 90 American media figures and influencers on a multi-day tour of the city as part of its broader drive to be positioned as a premier business and lifestyle tourism destination in the US market.
The trip – organised by Chicago-based travel and events company Advantage International and hosted by Joburg Tourism – saw the group exploring the city’s arts, culture, gastronomy and urban attractions.
The itinerary included guided tours of Constitution Hill, the Apartheid Museum and Soweto along with a performance of American playwright August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson at the Joburg Theatre.
“We were delighted to partner with Advantage International to provide a truly memorable experience for these visitors. This initiative enhanced our destination’s global appeal and fostered economic growth by supporting local entrepreneurs and businesses,” said Joburg Tourism Executive Head of Destination Marketing and Events Belu Mabandla.
The US was South Africa’s leading overseas tourism market with over 372 000 visitors in 2024.
