The Great Plains School Food Program for Kenyan children is set to expand its reach. This Great Plains Foundation initiative has provided over 5.5 million healthy meals for children since its establishment.
“Children need to have nourished bodies and full bellies. Only then can the already difficult task of learning begin,” stated Dereck Joubert, Great Plains Foundation Co-Founder and Chairman.
As the foundation enters its third year, it is exploring the potential of buying more food supplies and thus creating additional local farming jobs. “Ultimately, we anticipate local farms will take over the feeding directly in a macro and circular economy,” Joubert added.
Principals of supported schools report improved attendance and grades due to the school feeding programme.
