Reopened at the start of April, Legacy Hotels & Resorts’ The Centurion Hotel is paying tribute to South Africa’s top sports stars with, amongst other initiatives, the creation of an impressive mural on one of the hotel’s outer walls.
Situated just 900 metres from the Supersport Park Cricket Stadium, the hotel is focusing strongly on celebrating the rich sporting heritage of the region and South Africa as a whole.
The mural, stretching approximately 30 metres around the hotel, depicts some of the country’s most renowned sports stars, across sporting codes including rugby, cricket, soccer, athletics, swimming and boxing.
“We wanted to celebrate the world-beating performances of South Africa’s preeminent athletes and the importance of sport for national pride and unity,” said Kamala Douglas, GM of The Centurion Hotel.
“In addition, we envisage this to be an attractive incentive for visitors to come to our hotel, and this also brings an opportunity to partner with the depicted sports stars and get them interacting with sports enthusiasts and guests.”
The hotel aims to further enhance the sporting atmosphere by installing an outdoor big screen to air live matches and decorating the interiors with sporting memorabilia.
The property was built in 1991 as a comfortable stayover option for visitors to Centurion. It underwent extensive refurbishments during COVID, and is again welcoming business and leisure travellers.
