Next year, the Lufthansa Group will add a brand-new destination – Victoria Falls.
From March 30, the group’s leisure brand, Eurowings Discover, will operate a tag flight from Windhoek to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The announcement was hailed as a major boost to the Kavango-Zambezi (KAZA) region. According to CEO of Africa’s Eden Tourism Association, Jillian Blackbeard, this is positive news for the entire KAZA region, with tourism hotspots such as Livingstone, Chobe and even the Okavango benefiting from direct connectivity from a principal source market.
Blackbeard added that this move showed confidence in the potential for continued growth in the KAZA region by a leading airline. “We hope this will contribute to further interest from other long-haul carriers.”
More Frankfurt-Windhoek flights
Dr André Schulz, Lufthansa Group GM Southern Africa and East Africa, said in a communication to the trade, that its flights to Windhoek had already shown a strong increase in demand and, thanks to these positive booking trends and favourable market conditions, the group would further increase its presence in Namibia from March 30, 2022, by increasing operations to Windhoek from five flights a week to daily. All the flights will be operated by the group’s leisure airline, Eurowings Discover.
