The Maasai Trails in Kenya’s Loita Hills, has opened its refurbished Enairebuk Airstrip, making transfers to the walking base quicker and easier.
Passengers can charter flights in Nairobi from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Wilson Airport:
- From Jomo Kenyatta International Airport: Cessna 208 (six pax), with Scenic Air Charters.
- From Wilson Airport: Cessna 206 (four pax), with Yellow Wings.
Visitors can also drive from Nairobi to the Mara, taking about five hours, or a six-hour drive to the Loita Hills.
Guests will be met by the Maasai Trails team, then taken on a 40-minute drive through the hills and forest to meet the walking expedition crew, the Loita Maasai guides and the donkeys.
Along the trails, there are permanent, semi-permanent and set-up camps that are erected prior to arrival. Walks normally include three hours in the morning, a stop for a leisurely lunch, then a further three hours in the afternoon.
